Description
Come see what the Disneyland Alumni Club is all about! Join us for a full luncheon and a presentation by special guest speaker Floyd Norman.
Floyd started working as an animation artist for the Walt Disney studio on Sleeping Beauty and eventually graduated to the story department where he joined the story team on The Jungle Book. He had the opportunity to work with Walt Disney on the last film the old maestro personally supervised.
In the late sixties, Floyd served as writer–director in the production of educational media. Vignette Films, Inc. was one of the first companies to produce films on the subject of African-American history.
Floyd returned to Disney in the early eighties to join the Disney Publishing Group. He wrote the syndicated Mickey Mouse comic strip and contributed stories for Disney Comics. As Project Supervisor in Creative Development Publishing, Floyd created, wrote and designed several children’s books. After a ten year absence from film, Floyd returned to Disney Feature Animation to story board on The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan, Dinosaur, and The Tigger Movie. In 1997 Floyd moved north to Pixar Animation Studios where he joined the story crew for Toy Story2 and Monsters, Inc.
Floyd retired from Walt Disney Feature Animation in 2000, but he continues to work on various projects. He’s part of the new PBS television show, Click and Clack and he’s working on the new Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco.
Also at the Event
Don Peri has captured the essence of his many interviews in this fascinating 256-page book. This look at Walt Disney by those who knew him best is revealing, insightful, and informative for anyone who wants to understand the inner workings of a man with Walt’s creative genius and vision. Conversations recorded in Working with Walt (University Press of Misssissippi, 2008) include animators, voice actors, and designers who were part of the Disney Studio’s golden era. Included in this unique book are interviews with fifteen artists who worked with and knew Walt well. Don will have a few copies of his book with him at our May mini-reunion event and will be available to sign them for us.
The new platinum edition of Walt Disney's "Pinocchio" includes a featurette on the making of the film. S/R Laboratories is proud to have made it possible to include early animation scenes from the film never seen before. Ron Stark, Director of S/R Laboratories Animation Art Conservation Center and Membership Chairman/VP of Disneyland Alumni Club, will have some of the rare animation drawings to share with us at the May mini-reunion. The new DVD (released in March, 2009) is accompanied by a special Pinocchio Little Golden Book, featuring artwork that Ron and his staff restored. If members wish to bring their copies of their DVD's and books, Ron will be glad to autograph them at the meeting.
All Disney buffs know that Walt was a great admire of America’s 16th president. In this unusual book, readers can receive leadership advice from Abraham Lincoln himself, even though the Great Emancipator celebrated his 200th birthday this year. With lessons crafted by Lincoln portrayer and scholar Gene Griessman based on his beloved presentations, Lincoln Speaks to Leaders (Elevate Books, 2009) proves Abe’s wisdom is timeless and still relevant today by following each lesson with the contemporary wisdom of noted Orlando Magic leader Pat Williams. Disneyland Alumni Club member Peggy Matthews Rose assisted with the crafting of Williams’ portion of the book and shaped the manuscript. She will have copies of this book with her at our May mini-reunion and will be available to sign them for us.
