Join Our New Bands!

The Disneyland Alumni Club is forming a MARCHING BAND! Why? Because we love music, and in particular, Disney music, and want to play it in parades for the public.

It will be known as “The Disneyland Alumni Club Marching Band & Dancers,” and we all ready have our first “gig” set up.

The gig is participating in the Nisei Week Parade in Los Angeles that usually takes place the second Sunday in August. Other gigs could be coming.

Once we have the band formed, we will be getting together to learn and rehearse 2-3 Disney tunes. Rehearsals will take place on Saturdays in the latter half of July and the first weekend in August

And yes, we also want dancers to follow the band and also learn a routine. For the Nisei Week parade, the dancing will be Japanese Ondo-style dancing. Don’t worry, we will teach you.

Previous marching band experience is a plus, but if you can play an instrument, we will teach you to march or dance.

If you are interested in being a part of our Marching Band & Dancers, or know someone that would like to participate, please email us at info@disneylandalumni.org.

But we’re also forming a NEW SHOW BAND!

We are proud to announce the formation of the “Disneyland Alumni Club Show Band.” This will be a “year round” group created to perform for concert / show type of events.

This band will play Disney-themed music in a wider variety of styles like “Symphonic,” “Big Band” and “Jazz,” aiming to be able to perform 40 – 45 minute sets for charity events.

We will also be working with The Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach as part our new music program with them, as some of the kids are advanced enough to join us and play in a show band.

Generally, the minimum requirements for participation in the show band is being able to read sheet music (or in lieu of reading music, being able to play parts exactly as heard on the music tracks – subject to approval of the Music Directors) and attending rehearsals consistently.

We want as many of you to have the opportunity to perform with this band and understand that there may be “exceptions to the rule,” so please reach out to us if you have any concerns.

The first piece we will learn is “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from the PIXAR movie “Toy Story.”

We are looking to fill the following parts:

Alto Sax 1 & 2
Tenor Sax
Clarinets
Bass Clarinet
Flutes
Trumpet 1 & 2
Trombone 1 & 2
Tuba or Bass Guitar
Drum Set
Glockenspiel
Piano

The second piece we will learn is “The Music of Disneyland for the Symphonic Band.” A list of parts needed will be sent out when we are closer to working on that selection.

If you don’t see your instrument listed – no worries. Let us know what instrument you do play so we can see about adding you into the band (our directors are very good at arranging music to accommodate available instruments).

Show Band rehearsal is tentatively scheduled to start in January 2022 and will be once a month thereafter. We anticipate our first performance to take place on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the Centenary United Methodist Church during their fundraiser Arigato Bazaar.

You are welcome to be a part of one or both bands – and invite others to join as well (the more, the merrier)! If you are interested in participating or have any questions, please email us at info@disneylandalumni.org.
